When I was at work, probably about 10 o’clock in the morning, I went to my boss in tears. I had to get him to drive me home and get somebody to follow us so that he could get a ride back because there was no way I could drive myself home. I didn’t have a family doctor here so there was nothing I could get to alleviate the [migraine] pain but from the compassion centre I got something called ‘Northern Lights’ [a strain of cannabis]. I rolled myself a little spliff and before I put it out my migraine was gone… my success rate so far has allowed me to cut my use of oxy’s [oxycontin] in half and in another 2-3 months should be off them completely. My GP informed me once I’m off my oxy’s I should also be able to get off my anti-depressants.

I got a call about a week later from the hospital to start using chemotherapy but my toes started to move so I didn’t go… and that was the beginning. And then I was out of the wheelchair that I was told I would never be out of, just from a plant. My doctor, I walked in to his office and we were almost high-fiving – this is the doctor who wouldn’t send my MMAR [medicinal cannabis license] forms – and he said “I’ll sign any amount you say, whatever you need.”

I had [PSA level] seven hundred, it was aggressive, advanced and had already metastasized out of the prostate and into my bones, into my knees, my ankles, particularly the tops of my femurs, my hips… I was a mess. This happened very quickly in November of 2013. Radiation and chemo were not a possibility because I was ‘too far gone’ for them. I started taking tiny amounts of it [cannabis oil] until I was able to handle larger amounts. Months later they tested me again and instead of running a level of seven hundred PSA I got a 375 level. I don’t have this [cancer] anymore. I’d been taking it [cannabis oil] regularly and I got down to a 24 after the 375, then a 12.5, then a 4.5, then a 1.76. When I didn’t take the oil for a week and got my PSA tested at the end of the month it had gone up again to 4.5 or 4.7. Then I started taking it again and my PSA went down again and now it’s around 1.5.
